A clean engine bay makes servicing easier, helps you spot leaks early and looks good when the bonnet is up. It also needs more care than the rest of the car, because water and electrics do not mix. Done properly it is safe and straightforward.
Before you start
- Make sure the engine is cool. Cleaners should never go onto hot surfaces.
- Cover exposed electrics. Protect the alternator, fuse box, air intake and any exposed connectors with plastic bags or cling film.
- Check your handbook if you are unsure about a specific model.
Step 1: loosen the dirt
Remove loose leaves and debris by hand or with a brush. Then spray Vonixx Vexus onto the dirty areas. Vexus is acid-free and ready to use.
Step 2: agitate
Work the cleaner into heavy grime with a soft detailing brush such as our detail brush. Pay attention to the areas around the battery and the scuttle panel.
Step 3: rinse gently
Rinse with low pressure. A full-pressure jet is not needed and can force water into connectors. Keep the water away from the covered electrics.
Step 4: dry
Blow off or wipe away standing water, open the bonnet fully and let the engine bay air dry. Starting the engine briefly can help drive off the remaining moisture once the covers are off.
Step 5: dress the plastics
