Microfibre & Drying: common questions
What GSM should a car drying towel be?
GSM is grams per square metre, the density of the microfibre. Higher GSM means more water lifted per pass, so you drag the towel less and put fewer marks into the paint.
Most budget drying towels are 300 to 600 GSM. Ours is 1200 GSM, which is enough to dry a full car without wringing it out halfway round.
How do I wash microfibre so it keeps absorbing?
- Wash at 40°C or below, because heat damages the fibres
- Never use fabric softener, it clogs the microfibre and kills the absorbency
- Hang to dry, or tumble on low heat only
- Wash separately from cotton, which sheds lint into the pile
What is the difference between a wash mitt and a finger mitt?
The wash mitt is for bodywork: deep pile, holds a lot of shampoo, traps grit away from the paint.
The finger mitt works like a glove so you can feel what you are cleaning. We keep one just for wheels, spokes and grilles.
