Vireto DRIFT, FORGE and SURGE: The Three-Step Wash Explained

Vireto DRIFT, FORGE and SURGE: The Three-Step Wash Explained

Vireto is a British car care brand, and the thing that stands out about the range is that it is built as a sequence rather than a shelf of options. There is a wheel cleaner, a pre-wash and a shampoo, and they are designed to be used in that order on the same car. If you have found this page looking for what Vireto DRIFT, FORGE and SURGE actually are, that is the short version. Below is the longer one.

All three are concentrates in 500ml, and all three are stocked here at MC Detailing. If you want the background on the brand itself, there is a separate page on the story behind Vireto.

Step one: FORGE on the wheels

Wheels first, always. They are the dirtiest part of the car, and anything you splash off them while cleaning them needs to land on bodywork you have not washed yet, not on bodywork you have just finished.

Vireto FORGE is a non-acid wheel cleaner concentrate. Non-acid matters because an acid cleaner will etch the wrong finish given half a chance, and modern wheels are a mix of painted, powder-coated and diamond-cut faces, often on the same car. FORGE is safe across all three.

It dilutes up to 20:1. Start there on a maintenance wash and go stronger on a car with baked-on brake dust. Spray it onto a cool, dry wheel, give it a minute to work, agitate the face and the barrel, then rinse. Do not let it dry on the wheel in direct sun.

Step two: DRIFT as the pre-wash

The pre-wash is the step that protects your paint, and it is the step most people skip. Vireto DRIFT goes through a snow foam cannon onto a dry, dirty car, clings, and lifts the loose grit off the surface so that it is already gone by the time a mitt touches the paint.

That is the whole point of a pre-wash. Swirl marks come from grit being dragged across the clear coat during the contact wash, not from the road. The less grit there is on the panel when you start washing, the fewer marks you put in.

DRIFT dilutes up to 50:1 and is safe on wraps, PPF and ceramic coatings. That last part is why it earns a place in the van: on a waxed or ceramic coated car, a strong alkaline pre-wash is working harder than it needs to, and DRIFT is what we reach for instead. Let it dwell, do not let it dry, then rinse from the top down.

Step three: SURGE for the contact wash

Vireto SURGE is the contact wash. It is pH neutral, so it is safe over wax, sealant and ceramic coatings, and it will not strip the protection you paid for.

What you want from a shampoo at this stage is lubricity rather than cleaning power, because the pre-wash has already done the lifting. SURGE produces a rich pearlised foam with enough slickness to let a deep-pile mitt glide over the panel instead of dragging. It dilutes up to 2000:1.

Wash one panel at a time, top to bottom, and keep the mitt loaded with suds so it glides rather than drags. Then dry with a high-GSM drying towel, patting rather than dragging.

Why concentrates

Vireto sell concentrates rather than pre-diluted ready-to-use bottles, and at the ratios above that is the difference between buying product and buying water. It also means you control the strength. A filthy winter car and a car that was washed last Sunday do not need the same mix, and a concentrate lets you choose.

The trade-off is that you have to measure, and you have to read the label rather than guessing. Mix too weak and you will blame the product for the result.

The sequence, in short

  1. FORGE at 20:1 on the wheels, agitate, rinse
  2. DRIFT at up to 50:1 through the foam cannon, dwell, rinse top down
  3. SURGE at up to 2000:1, one panel at a time, mitt kept loaded with suds
  4. Dry with a high-GSM towel

That is a full safe wash with three bottles and no gaps in the middle of it. If you want to read more on the technique rather than the products, the step-by-step wash guide covers the same order in more detail, and snow foam explained covers the pre-wash step on its own.

The three Vireto concentrates are in stock in 500ml on the Vireto collection page, shipped from the United Kingdom.
